Students should be having their homework folder checked nightly to see if there is material that needs to be read and signed by parents/ guardians. Also by signing the planner you are acknowledging that you have seen their completed homework and behavior logs. Please do not sign the planner without looking to see if homework is completed
Spalding - The students will be dictating and learning Spelling list 5 this week. The spelling homework and test for List 4 are due on Friday. .
Language/Writing – This week’s lessons will be reviewing and using prepositions. In writing, we will begin to learn about formal letter format and begin our first letters to our pen pals. Please be sure to return permission slips so that all students may participate.
Reading – In reading activities this week we will be looking at how to infer information that is not given explicitly. In addition, we will begin to consciously sequence events in stories to bring attention to how important maintaining a proper sequence is in literature and writing.
Poem Recitation is due September 26th.
AZ Report (ie 1st book report) Due 10/04 – students should be more than ½ way done by now. Do not forget to have students make a bibliography card for any books or resources used. They will need to include a complete bibiliography with their project. (they have reference materials and practice cards in their writing/project folders)
Math - Our next test will be on Wednesday, look for practice tests to come home on Tuesday for studying. This week we will also begin some lessons on geometry: identifying shapes and perimeter.
Science - The body systems test will be on Monday. We will begin our next unit on Animal Adaptations this week.
Social Studies – We will continue our study of early Arizona and how different peoples came to settle here and eventually develop our cities.

Spalding - The students will enter List 4 Spelling Words and will be tested on List 3 on Friday.
Language/Writing - The students will learn about irregular plural nouns and irregular verbs. We will complete grammar lessons 16-19, and will have grammar test 2 on Monday 9/9. We will also continue learning about compound and complex sentences.
Reading - We will be reading Messages by the Mile out of our Open Court Books and be focusing on making predictions, making connections and asking questions. We will have a test on Wednesday that goes over summarization of the story and vocabulary. Lastly, we will be reading our book studies.
Math - The students will continue with math lessons and will have the next test on Monday 9/9. We will complete Lesson 18-20 focusing on elapsed time and rounding.
Science - We will do review questions 1-5 on page A105 on Tuesday. We will work on workbook pages 55-56 Wednesday. There will be a skills worksheet done on Thursday and the study guide will be given out. Test will follow over the human body on next Monday 9/16.
Social Studies - We will continue our study of Arizona and learn about product maps and the people of Arizona. There will be a Lesson 2 quiz on Wednesday 09/5 and a unit test in about 2 weeks.
