Weekly Announcements
Tuesday, October 29 – LAST Day for Fun Run Donations! November 1 – Spirit Day **Also Nov 1 is last day for Field Trip Permission Slips and Fees – If you are having trouble coming up with money, please contact your child’s teacher via email. November 8 – Early Release November 11 – No School – Veterans Day November 20 – Picture Retakes November 27-29 – Thanksgiving Break Thank you to all the friends and family of PRA for your help and donations – you have made Fun Run a success!!! As always, please be sure to check student’s homework folder nightly to see if there is material that needs to be read and signed by parents/ guardians. Also by signing the planner and behavior log you are acknowledging that you have seen their completed homework and any potential behavior issues. Please do not sign the planner without looking to see if homework is completed Academics Spalding - The students will be dictating and learning Spelling list 10 this week. The spelling homework and test for List 9 are due on Friday. Also, please note that the Homework that will be coming home for List 10 on Friday will be different from our usual packets. Please read the instructions on the form and contact your student’s teach if there are any questions. Language/Writing – This week’s lessons will be learning about use of prepositions, objects of prepositions, use of proper adjectives and how to use all of the above in sentence diagramming. The next Grammar Test is Friday November 1st. In writing, we will begin our next 5-paragraph research essay. This essay will be a biographical essay focusing on character traits (research material has been provided). Essays will be done in class and due at the end of the week. Reading – In reading we will be reading and discussing different types of folktales. Students will be learning the differences between the different types and how to identify the purpose of each type. Poem Recitation – DUE THURSDAY! - “50 States”- . Next book report has been assigned. Students need to have a fiction book, at least 100 pages long, chosen and bring in the approval form no later than Friday November 1 for Teach Approval. Ensure students start reading immediately!! Math - Our next test will be next weeks, look for practice tests to come home the night before for correction and studying. This week we will also begin some lessons on fractions, decimals, measuring and converting capacity. Science - This week begins a new unit on renewable and non- renewable resources. We will discuss the definition and examples of each in class and practice with various activities. Social Studies – We will conclude our study of early Arizona and how different peoples came to settle here and eventually develop our cities. This week’s lessons will be reviewing all of unit 1 in preparation for the Unit 1 Test on Friday November 1st. Please ensure student is using the study guide!!. Weekly Announcements
Fun Run will be this Friday the 25th from 10:15-11:00 for 4th grade. Donations will still be accepted through Friday. Academics Spalding - The students will be entering words from list 9 and test will be on list 8. Language/Writing – The students will be doing quarter 2 assessments Mon- Wed. Book studies will be on Thursday and Friday. Reading – We will read and have a test over the myth of Daedalus and Icarus. Also, we will be working on our book studies. Next book report will be assigned on Monday, October 21st. Students may begin reading a fiction book for this report. It must be at least 100 pages, and must be on the approved reading list. Math - We will complete lesson 31, 34 and 35 on writing numbers, word problems and mixed numbers. On Thursday, October 24th, there will be a study guide for two math tests, which will be on Friday, October 25th. Science - Students will receive a study guide on classification on Wednesday, October 23rd, then a test on Friday, October 25th. Social Studies – We will be going over primary and secondary accounts in social studies. Announcements:
- No school Monday 10/14 -Half days on Thursday, 10/17 and Friday 10/18, students will be dismissed at 12:15. Please do not pick students up before the day ends as tests and curriculum are still being given. -Conferences will be this week. Please notify your teacher ASAP if you are not able to make your time, and be on time to your conference. Thank you. -Fun run Pep Rally on Tuesday 10/15. -Report Cards will be sent out on 10/16 Curriculum; Language Arts- Grammar lessons 37-40 will be done along with a test Friday. We will be completing our animal adaptations essay in class however students may bring them home to complete final draft. Social Studies- We are completing Unit 1 lesson 5 and the review questions. Reading- We will read and have a test over the play Martha helps the Rebels. Also, we will be working on our book studies. Math- We will be working on base ten blocks and have a test over lessons 1-30 on Thursday. Science- We will continue with Classification Chapter 1 lesson 2 and also doing a science lab with celery on Friday. Spalding- There will be no spelling homework this week or test. Essays will be due at the end of the week. Reading – In reading we will be reading a story about Louis Braille and testing on Reading Comprehension. Poem Recitation – 50 States- is due October 30th. Next book report will be assigned after the start of 2nd quarter. Students may begin reading a fiction book for this report. It must be at least 100 pages, and must be on the approved reading list. Math - Our next test will be on Thursday 10/17, look for practice tests to come home the night before for studying. This week we will also begin some lessons on geometry: understanding and finding Area of spaces. Science - This week begins a new unit on Animal Classifications. Social Studies – We will continue our study of early Arizona and how different peoples came to settle here and eventually develop our cities. This week’s lessons focuses on understanding the similarities and differences between early civilizations in the area. |
