Weekly Announcements
March 27 – Spirit Day! (early to accommodate Testing Week and Spring Recess Day) March 30 thru April 4 – State Testing Week. April 10 – ½ Day April 14 – Read In Please continue to check student’s homework folder nightly. Although homework may be reduced over the next week or two to accommodate testing schedules, we are still learning and working towards our 4th grade academic goals. Please also remind your students, school is still in session and they need to maintain the same attention to classwork and homework as we have all year. Please do not sign the planner without looking to see if homework is completed Academics A note about Testing Week: Please do not schedule family events, vacations or doctor’s appointments during testing week. In addition, it is important that students are on-time during this week. Anyone who is late or pulled from class early will not be able to finish the tests and will end up receiving zero’s for any portion not done. These tests have very strict rules to follow to ensure consistency across the state, we are not able to accommodate exceptions. Spalding - The students will be dictating and learning Spelling list 25 this week. The spelling homework and test for List 24 are due on Friday (week 24 was held over and delayed from before spring break). Language/Writing – This week’s lessons will be learning reviewing grammar topics to be used in the upcoming testing.. Please ensure students are making lists of questions that may come up to review before the tests. Reading – In reading we will be learning reviewing Reading topics to be used in the upcoming testing. Please ensure students are making lists of questions that may come up to review before the tests Poems: America The Beautiful is due on March 26. Please ensure your student is practicing. Book Report: The next book report will be handed out this week. It is a Mystery Bag and must be based on an approved Mystery Chapter Book. Please read through the project packet completely and ensure students bring in any questions. Math - This week be learning reviewing Math topics to be used in the upcoming testing.. Please ensure students are making lists of questions that may come up to review before the tests. Science - This week we continue our standard Science Lessons and will be covering electricity and electrical circuits basics. The Electricity Unit Test is TBD (after testing week) Social Studies – . We will continue to work and practice with reading and using maps for social Studies. The Social Studies test will be next week – date TBD Announcements:

-Science Reference pages, and essay is due Thursday -Valentine's day party is Friday -Friday is a Half Day -Conferences are this week at teachers request - Progress Reports will be sent home on Wednesday -No school next Monday 2/17 Academics: Language- We will be working on Grammar lessons 85-88 and have a grammar test on Tuesday. Social Studies-We will be completing worksheets over lesson 4 and be giving out a study guide for Unit 3. The tentative day for the Social Studies test will be Thursday this week. Reading- We are reviewing Main Idea, Supporting detail and Authors purpose this week. We will finish the week with out book study. Math- We are continuing our work with fractions. We will continue working on common denominators, equivalent fractions and, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions. Science-We will be finishing our measurement unit, and the students will have a test over it on Friday. Spalding- Students will be focusing on list 20 this week. Also by signing the planner and behavior log you are acknowledging that you have seen their completed homework and any potential behavior issues. Please do not sign the planner without looking to see if homework is completed Academics Spalding - The students will be dictating and learning Spelling list 20 this week. The spelling homework and test for List 19 are due on Friday. Language/Writing – This week’s lessons will be learning about use of additional types of pronouns and irregular verbs. The next Grammar Test is Monday. In writing, we are beginning to learn about compare and contrast writing. We will be starting a 5-paragraph essay where the students is able to write an analysis comparing and contrasting a given topic. Reading – In reading we will be continue to focus on identifying and comparing themes. .. Students will be learning the differences between the different types and how to identify the purpose of each type. Math - This week we start a multi-week long unit on fractions. Students will be learning all the rules for adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with fractions. Science - This week we continue a multi-week long unit on the metric system and how scientist measure. The next due date for the Science Fair Project is Thursday February 13th! Students should be researching for the research documentation page and their 5-paragraph essay this week and writing next week. Social Studies – We will finish up the study of Unit 3, post-civil war American and Arizona’s role in that part of history. The Social Studies test will be next week – date TBD Weekly Announcements

The next Grammar Test is Tuesday. In writing, we are beginning to learn about persuasive writing. We will be starting a 5-paragraph essay where the students is able to write a persuasive argument for or against a topic of their choice. Reading – In reading we will be concentrating on identifying and comparing themes. .. Students will be learning the differences between the different types and how to identify the purpose of each type. Math - We will take a math benchmark test on Monday. This week we will reviewing and practicing, writing remainders as fractions, how to add basic fractions, and identifying polynomials. Science - This week we have begun reviewing requirements for this quarter’s Science Fair Project. The approval form for the student’s project ideas must be turned in by 1/30 at the latest. They may be turned in early. We will be practicing all the different required elements of the scientific process throughout the week. - There is no school Monday the 6th. - Please be sure to have students be looking through their science fair projects to come up with a problem. - Spirit day is on Friday, students may wear spirit shirts, and we will have an assembly at 8:15. - Name number and date must be on every paper turned in. - Please be sure to notify your teacher by Sunday night if your child is going to attend that weeks tutoring. - Report Cards for quarter 2 will be released on Wednesday. Academics: Spalding - Students will be entering list 16 into their notebooks and will be tested on list 15. We will be focusing on the progressive verb tense, adjectives, subordinating conjunctions, suffixes (-ent, -ment, -in, -de), and hyperbole. Students will be given a Morrison McCall test this week for spelling. Grammar - Students will complete Grammar Lessons 66, 67, 68 and 69 (with emphasis and lessons on the comma). Writing - Students will be working on the PARCC Writing Assessment. Reading - Students will be working on the PARCC Reading Assessment. We will be going over the Scientific Method project for Quarter 3 grade in both science and reading. We will also review criteria for the Reading Log and the poem for Quarter 3. Math - Students will work on Investigation 6 which is Displaying Data Using Graphs. Study guide 11A will be given on Thursday and test 11B will be on Friday. Science - Students will be introduced to the scientific method and will read over a sample project 'drip dry'. Social Studies - Students will read about timelines and then get into unit 2 lesson 1 Spanish in North America. Announcements:
-Reading Log is due on Thursday the 19th -Winter Parties are only for students; please do not bring other children. After the party you may take your child once, their areas are clean! Please be sure to sign them out with the sign out sheets. - Please be sure students are in dress code. Many jackets are allowed to be worn outdoors but should not be on in the classrooms. Academics: Spalding- We will be working with list 15. The students will not have a spelling test this week. Lang Arts- Students will be working on grammar lessons 63-65. They will have a test on Friday. Social Studies- Students will be going over Key concepts in History such as maps, timelines and primary and secondary sources. Reading- Students will continue working on their Fires of Pele theme packet and finish the week with their books studies. Math- We will be working on Lessons 56-58. The spelling homework and test for List 14 are due on Friday. Language/Writing – This week’s lessons will be learning about use of pronouns and their antecedents as well as progressive verb forms. The next Grammar Test is next week. In writing, we continue to work on our response to literature essay about Pandora’s Box. Essays will be done in class and due at the end of the week. Reading – In reading we will be reading about, and comparing Myths.. Students will be learning the differences between the different types and how to identify the purpose of each type. Math - Our next test will be Friday. Look for practice tests to come home the night before for correction and studying. This week we will reviewing and practicing Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple. Science - This week we have begun working on understanding the elements of Scientific Method and Scientific Reporting. We will be practicing different elements of the process throughout the week. Social Studies – We will conclude our study of the birth of the United States and the Westward Expansion, and how that affected Arizona. This week’s lessons will be reviewing all of unit 2 in preparation for the Unit 2 Test on Friday December 13th. Please ensure student is using the study guide!!. Weekly Announcements
There will be no school on Monday, November 12 for Veteran's Day. Quarter 2 progress reports will be emailed to parents and guardians on Thursday, November 14th. Academics Spalding - The students will be entering words from list 12 and test will be on list 11. Language/Writing – The students will be doing grammar lessons 51-53. We will also be continuing work on our informative analysis essay. Reading – The students will work on discovering elements of a good book. Book studies will continue on Thursday and Friday in the individual 4th grade classrooms. Math - The students will complete lessons 42-45 on adding and subtracting decimal numbers, and multiplying two digit numbers. Science - The students will continue focusing on soil formation, ecosystems, and resources. Social Studies – The students will continue reading about early explorers and expeditions in Arizona history. Announcements:
-Half Day this Friday. Students will be released at 12:15. If you would like to assist, please email your homeroom teacher. -NEHS is selling erasers-$1.00 and chips- $0.50 to raise money for Phoenix Children's hospital this week before school and during lunches Academics: Language- We will be doing grammar lessons 46-49 and have a grammar test on Friday. We will also be continuing work on our Informative Analysis papers. Social Studies- We will be reading Unit 2 Lesson 1 and also learn about Elevation maps. Reading- We will learn about Fairy Tales and Reference resources. Finishing the week with our book studies. Math- We will work on investigation 4 in our math books. Do benchmark #2, Learn about Arrays and Tree Diagrams and lastly do test 7. Science- The students will be learning about Ecosystems and reading B chapter 3 lessons 1 and 2. Spalding/Spelling- We are going to be entering list 11 and testing over list 10. We also will be doing our monthly 70 phonogram test and Morrison McCall benchmark test. |
