Week of February 6th

Quick Announcements:
  • Progress reports will be sent home Wednesday and are due back signed on Monday.
  • Thursday is our field trip!
  • Friday is early release and the Valentine's Day party from 10:30-11:30.
  • Thank you for all those who offered to chaperone the field trip. We couldn't do it without you!
  • The fourth grade needs your help, please! We are looking for volunteers to help with the spring fling booth on March 4th. The shifts are 30 minutes long and we need volunteers to supervise the game and collect raffle tickets from the players. We need time slots from 11-2:30 covered. Please let your child's teacher know as soon as possible if you are able to help! Also, please let your child's teacher know if you are able to help prepare a craft or game for the Valentine's Day party. Your help is greatly appreciated and helps ensure that our students have a great time at these events. 
  • The science fair documentation form is due Friday. 
Our Learning this Week:
  • In Spalding, we are entering list 21 and being tested on list 20. 
  • In language/writing, we are practicing adding suffixes to our spelling words and using them in super sentences! We are also practicing abbreviations. We will complete grammar lessons 69 and 70. We will complete grammar test 13 on Wednesday. We will learn to write persuasive paragraphs with excellent word choice. 
  • In reading, we will take our main idea, author's purpose and graphic organizers test on Tuesday. We will begin a new unit on identifying text structure. 
  • In math, we will take test 13 on Monday. We will complete lessons 71, 72, and 75 on division with answers ending in zero, finding information to solve problems, and measuring turns. 
  • In science, we will continue our study of the scientific method and measurement systems. We will read E14-15 and E34-35. We will complete a science lab investigation on density. 
  • In social studies, we will read unit 2 lesson 3 on the foundation of the United States (Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, etc.)

Week of January 30th

Quick Announcements:
  • Field Trip packets and payment will be due on Tuesday. Please understand that late packets and payments cannot be accepted.
  • Friday is spirit day. Please join us for our morning assembly on Friday at 8:15.
Our Learning this Week:
  • In Spalding, we will enter list 20 and be tested on list 19.
  • In language/writing, we will learn about suffixes, infinitives, prefixes, word roots, and apostrophes. We will take grammar test 12 on Monday. We will complete grammar lessons 66-68. We will finish our essay comparing and contrasting the themes of two poems.
  • In reading, we will learn to identify main idea and supporting details in texts, use graphic organizers to understand our reading and determine the author's purpose for writing a text. We will read The Night the Revolution Began in our Open Court text with an assessment over the reading on Friday.
  • In math, we will have test 12 on Monday. We will complete lessons 66, 69, and 70 on similar and congruent figures, millimeters, and word problems with fractions. Students will receive study guide 13 on Friday.
  • In science, we will continue our study of the scientific method. We will learn about different types of measurement in the metric and customary systems. We will read E2-E7 and E12-E13. 
  • In social studies, we will finish reading unit 2 lesson 2. We will read about settling New Spain and Spanish influence on the native cultures. There will be a quiz on Friday.

Quick Announcements
  • Tuesday is the 100th day of school. Please try your best to be here!
  • The recitation for January is Friday. Please remember to study and bring your packet. 
  • The book report reference page and biography are due Friday. This is one page from your packet (with two different references that you can use for your science fair project) and the three paragraph, typed biography of your scientist.
Our Learning this Week:
  • In Spalding, we will enter list 19 and be tested on list 18. We will take our monthly phonogram and spelling test.
  • In language, we will complete grammar lesson 65. We will learn to write about the theme of two different poems. 
  • In reading, we will take our quarterly ELA benchmark. 
  • In math, we will be learning geometry concepts. We will complete lesson 65 on division and we will learn different strategies for division.
  • In science, we will continue our study of the scientific method. We will learn about safe lab procedures, learn to plan a scientific investigation with the variables to be changed, and learn to conduct controlled investigations. 
  • In social studies, we will review unit 2 lesson 1, with a quiz on Thursday. We will begin unit 2 lesson 2.

Our Learning this Week:
  • In Spalding, we are entering list 18 and being tested on list 17.
  • In language/writing, we will learn about capital letters, linking verbs, gerunds, and suffixes. We will complete grammar lessons 61-64. We will finish writing our theme essay. 
  • In reading, we are studying main idea and supporting details. We will read Circles, Squares and Daggers in our Open Court book with an assessment over the reading on Friday.
  • In math, we will complete benchmark 3 on Monday. We will complete lessons 61-63 on 2 step equations, multiplying three or more factors and polygons. 
  • In science, we will continue our study of the scientific method. We will learn what makes a good question in a scientific investigation, we will learn how to form predictions, and how to locate information related to an investigation. 
  • In social studies, we will read unit 2 lesson 1, learning about Spanish conquest in North America and early exploration of North America.
