Weekly Announcements
Spirit Day 12/7- Students may wear Spirit Day shirts Field Trip 12/14- Students may wear Spirit Day shirts Early Release and class Winter Parties - 12/20 No School 12/21. Winter Break begins. Students should be having their homework folder checked nightly to see if there is material that needs to be read and signed by parents/ guardians. Also by signing the planner you are acknowledging that you have seen their completed homework and behavior logs. Please do not sign the planner without looking to see if homework is completed Academics Spalding - The students will enter List 14 Spelling Words and will be tested on List 13 on Friday. Language/Writing – Students will continue grammar lessons focused on abbreviations and expanding sentence diagramming. Grammar test is this week. Reading - We will continue reading strategies identifying elements of stories and recalling main ideas. We are also beginning to practice the proper use of elements of a good book: Setting, Character, Plot, Theme, etc. We will continue reading in our book studies (Tale of Despereaux, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nymn, The BFG and Holes - the study depending on which teacher your child has). We will be assessing reading comprehension with a story about a Japanese family impacted by a tsunami. November Poem Recitations are due this week Fancy Folder Book Reports Due 12/7 – students should be completing rough drafts and beginning the process of assembling their folders this week. Math - The students will continue with math lessons and will have the next test on Thursday 11/29. We will complete through Lesson 45 and practice some additional skills. Science - The students will begin to study about Earthquakes and Volcanoes. Students should be able to start studying notes this coming weekend. Remember be creative with studying- changing the process and setting a timer can help improve focus and reduce resistance to studying. Test Date will be week of 12/10. Social Studies - We are reading Unit 2, Lesson 2. We are just beginning to see the impact of western expansion and Arizona’s role in the new country. Lesson 2 Quiz will be this week. - On Monday afternoon we have the spelling bee. - On Tuesday afternoon (1:15-2:45) we have the Turkey Trot. Reminder - The poem recitation of "In Flanders Fields" is due November 29th and 30th. - The Fancy Folder Project is due December 7th. - The reading log is due December 20th. Note On the newsletters, we do our best to get these updated weekly. Please know that they are subject to change as needed. We hope that this website, including the newsletters, have been helpful to you. Academics Spalding - Since we have a 2-day academic week, students are working on spelling list 13 to write letters or stories. Language - We will be working on grammar Lesson 43 that reminds us when NOT to capitalize words. Also, in lessons 44 and 45, they will learn more about identifying and using prepositional phrases and the objects of prepositions. They will be diagramming prepositional phrases as adjectives. Reading - Book studies will continue on Monday and Tuesday in the individual 4th grade classrooms. Math -We will complete lessons 43 and 44 on adding and subtracting decimal numbers, and multiplying two digit numbers. Science - Please review the study guide for the test on Tuesday. Due to the Spelling Bee on Monday afternoon and the Turkey Trot Tuesday afternoon we will be doing little or no Science or Social Studies. Announcements - There will be no school on Monday, Nov. 12 for Veteran's Day.
Quarter 2 progress reports will be handed out in your child's 4th grade classroom on Thursday, Nov. 15.
Announcements:
Academics: Spalding: We will be working on entering list 12 into our spalding books this week. There will be no test or packet over the words. We have a 70 phonogram test and also a Morrison McCall monthly data check. These will be done on Thursday and Friday. We will hold our class spelling bee to see who will be competing for our class in the school spelling bee on Friday. Language Arts: We have a cumulative Grammar test on Monday that will run through lesson 40. Student’s will continue working on capitalization of letters throughout the week with lesson 41. We will continue with our animal adaptations 5 paragraph essays in Writing. Reading: We will be discussing Fairy tales this week along with resources. The students will have a practice test and a review over the types of text. They will not be tested for a grade on the unit. Math: We will continue reviewing capacity and measurement this week. Students will be working on worksheets and should be understanding the differences in measurements. We will finish out the week reviewing investigation 4a and 4b and do our benchmark test 2 used for data on Friday. Science: We will look into soil formation this week. Students will be reading B42-B45. They will do review questions and a worksheet identifying and describing soil. We will then work with Renewable and Nonrenewable resources later in the week. Social Studies: In social studies we will finish reading lesson 1 if the class has not finished. The students will learn about an elevation map and have a homework and practice worksheet reviewing the chapter. There will be a quiz on Thursday over the lesson. |
