Announcements:
*Thank you for all of your hard work in getting pledges for our Boosterthon fundraiser. Now we all need to collect the pledge donations. Your support is so appreciated and benefits our school in amazing ways! *The students should have their AZ project information packets now. It's best that they keep these materials at home once the teachers have gone over the instructions, examples, etc. Thank you for encouraging your children with this project. Academics: *In Spalding, we are entering List 10 and being tested on List 9. We are entering Rule Page 6. *In Language and Writing, students should have or will be finishing up their five-paragraph essays. They will now be writing the research paper, specifically on Arizona, and will do Lesson 35 in the Grammar Workbook which pertains to Research. Then, in the Grammar Text, we will be working on Lesson 36, Phrases and Clauses. *In Reading, remember that the AZ state report is taking the place of the book report. We will also continue with our book studies. Students will be reciting (or singing) their 50 States poem on Thursday and Friday. *In Math, we will complete Lesson 35 on Mixed Numbers and Money. On Wednesday there will be a study guide for two math quizzes, which will be on Thursday. Then, on Friday, we will work on Lesson 36, Fractions of a Dollar. *In Science, students will receive a study guide on Classification on Tuesday and Wednesday, then a test on Thursday. *In Social Studies, students will learn more about Latitude and Longitude. There will be a HW and Practice sheet, then a quiz on Unit 1, Lesson on Thursday. After this, we will introduce a new Lesson/Section on Environment and Resources. HOMEWORK For the Week: Tuesday - Spelling Packet comes home and is due Friday. Math Lesson 33 (1-30). Study Science. Wednesday - Study Math and Science. Study poem. Thursday - Study poem. Reminders
Academics Spalding - We will be entering words from List 8 in our Spalding spelling notebooks and focusing on rule 11. Your child will be tested on List 7 this Friday. There will not be a pretest this week because of the shortened week. Spelling homework packet will be due on Friday the 13th. Language Arts - Students will be focusing on the following in grammar: complex sentences, linking verbs, and diagramming. We will also be continuing to teach the format of the 5 paragraph essay using animal adaptations as the topic. Reading - The students will be reading a biography about Louis Braille in their Open Court Reading books. They will take a comprehension, vocabulary, and short essay test after reading and discussing. We will also be working on the book study on Thursday and Friday. Math - Students will focus on the following: 3 digit subtraction and regrouping, multiplication patterns, area, square roots, and base 10. Science - We will begin the unit on Animal Classification. Students will do two investigations. Social Studies- Students will begin the unit on Arizona. Book log for quarter one is due on Friday the 13th. Please be sure you have signed your child's log before then. Announcements-
Please be sure to email your teacher if your child is going to attend tutoring. If we do not receive an email, we assume you are not attending. Name date and number needs to be on every student paper that is turned in. Please talk with your child about this. There is an assembly this Friday at 8:15 on the basketball court. Please let your teacher know before 11:00 AM if your child is sick and you want work for them. This is something that takes teachers some time to get together, and we do it on our lunches. We cannot get the material together for you until the end of the day if a call is not made before 11AM. Absences are rising please be aware of the turn in policy for make up work. Try to have your child here if they are not truly sick. We move very fast in 4th grade and missing a day is very hard for students to try to make up material missed. Academics Spalding- We are working with list 7 this week in our spalding books, and will be tested on week 6. Language Arts- We will be working with multiword proper nouns, linking and helping verbs, appositives, suffixes (full, ive) and quotation marks. In grammar we will be finishing lessons 23-25 which are complete or run on sentences, correcting the run on sentence, and capitalization of titles. We will also have a test Thursday on lessons 1-25. In writing we will start to model and work on a 5 paragraph informative essay. Reading- We will be diving into types of text for our next unit. The first type we are going over is autobiographies. This will be done using a passage from Helen Keller. We will continue with our book studies as well. Math- In math we will be finishing lesson 25 which is the subtraction word problem. The students will receive their study guides on Tuesday and their Tests on Wednesday. Then we will finish the week with lesson 26- Drawing pictures of fractions and lesson 27-repeated addition and elapsed time. Science- We will finish lesson 3 on Monday then they will receive their study guide on Tuesday for their test on Friday. The students will also receive their animal adaptation project to complete Tuesday night. History- We are finishing our maps unit with planning with a map and maps and charts. A study guide will be handed out on Wednesday for the test on Thursday. |
