Weekly Announcements:
Some quick notes: Friday is Spirit Day. Please join us for our morning assembly in the gymnasium at 8:15 AM. Just a reminder that students will have math homework each night, including finishing any incomplete timed tests. Please continue to review your child's agenda to check for any notes, to write your own notes, and to ensure that they are writing the homework down consistently. Thank you for sending in those box tops! These really add up in helping our school. Academics: In Spalding, we will enter List 2 Spelling Words and will be tested on List 1 (Wednesday practice test/Friday final test for students who didn't quite make 100%). In Language/Writing, we will learn more about common and proper nouns, singular and plural nouns, and verb tenses. We will complete grammar lessons 9-11, and will have grammar test 1 on Wednesday. We will also learn to write complex sentences. In Reading, we are focusing on reading strategies. We will learn more about and practice predicting, context clues, and making connections. We will continue reading in our book studies (Tale of Despereaux, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nymn, and Holes - the study depending on which teacher your child has). In Math, students will have Test 1 on Monday. We will complete Lesson 11 (Addition Word Problems with Missing Addends), Lesson 13 (Adding 3-Digit Numbers, Lesson 14 (Subtracting 2-digit and 3-digit Numbers/Missing 2-Digit Addends), and Lesson 15 (Subtracting 2-digit Numbers With Regrouping/Subtracting Money). In Science, we will have a test on plants and their adaptations, learn about the skeleton and muscular systems, reading pages A86-93. We will also begin to learn about the respiratory and circulatory system, reading pages A96-99. In Social Studies, we will continue to study maps, including globes, hemispheres, map projections, map grids, latitude, and longitude. Weekly Announcements
Please make sure to complete the “Fancy Folder” form and return it to your child's homeroom teacher by Friday, August 25th. As a reminder, students will have math homework every night, including finishing any incomplete timed tests. Please always review your child's agenda to ensure that they are writing the homework and not attending Opportunity Club. Academics In Spalding, we will enter our practice spelling words in addition to our oral and written phonogram review. We will review syllable patterns and rules 3 and 16. In language/writing, we will complete grammar lessons 3-8. We will learn how to write compound sentences. In reading, we will learn reading strategies and how to use context to discern the meaning of unknown words. We will read How Thor got his Hammer and How Theseus Lifted the Stone. We will continue with our book study and learn about the types of text structures. In math, we will complete lessons 5, 6, 9, and investigation 1 on ordinal numbers, subtraction problems, adding with regrouping, and number lines. Students will receive a study guide on Friday for the first math test. Students are expected to study using the study guide for the test. The teacher will go over the study guide prior to sending it home. In science, we will continue our study of the structures and functions of plant and animal parts. We will read A76-79. Students will receive a study guide on Thursday for the first science test. Students are expected to study using the study guide for the test. The teacher will go over the study guide prior to sending it home. In social studies, we will learn about human and physical features (such as mountains, railroads, bays, etc.), we will learn to identify key parts of Arizona on a map, we will also learn about how resources are used to meet people's needs, how natural events can affect humans, and we will work in collaborative groups to apply what we've learned to create our own unique state! - Please be sure to let your child know where they are being picked up everyday, to ensure that they are in the correct area when you come to get them. If there is a change in what you had told them notify the front desk immediately so that they can let the teacher know where to send the student. -Placards must be present in order to get the student. There is no exceptions to this. If you do not have a placard or need a new one please see the front desk. -Students should be having their homework folder checked nightly to see if there is material that needs to be read and signed by parents/ guardians. Also by signing the planner you are acknowledging that you have seen their completed homework and behavior logs. Please do not sign the planner without looking to see if homework is completed. -Please send all the supplies students need in as soon as possible. The ones that are on the list for them to keep in their desks personally are the most important. Academics This week we will be doing benchmark testing for Spalding, Reading, Writing, and Math. The students will be starting to work on Grammar lessons and be introduced to Spalding cursive. In Math we will be working on lessons 1-4. For Science we will begin with Plants and adaptations. In Social Studies we will begin introducing Maps. Students will also be getting lots of material for the first quarter long term assignments on Wednesday. Be sure to look over these with them.
First week of school. *Please be sure to fill out all office paperwork and return by no later then Friday the 11th. *The fourth grade syllabus will be handed out and will be gone over thoroughly in class as well. This will need to be signed by both you and your child. * Supplies should be brought in on the first day of school. * Please be sure to have your students go to the cafeteria and then outside. They are not to stand outside the teachers door. |
