-Please remember to check the newsletter weekly, and check the website for possible answers to questions you may have regarding assignments or projects. -Reminders: The poem recitations are due on Thursday and Friday of this week (the 28th and 29th) and the book report is due on Friday, the 29th. -Tutoring: 4th Grade tutoring is now underway (by invitation). If your child has scheduled tutoring with Mr. Ho, Miss Magnusen, Mrs. Johnston, and/or Ms. Loreto, please remember to notify them as to whether or not your child is attending that week. [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Academic Focus This Week: -Spalding - We will enter List 6 and be tested on List 5. We will complete phonogram review and syllabication. -Language/Writing - We will review and practice alphabetizing, learn about verb tenses, adverbs, suffixes -ly, -ion, -on, and -ance, and will practice using quotation marks. Additionally, we will be working on the structure of an essay. -Reading - We will continue to study and practice reading strategies and mental actions, focusing this week on making inferences. We will be reading a Greek Myth and continuing with our book studies. -Math - We will continue working with shapes, radius, and diameter, and will do lessons in naming fractions, line segments, rays, angles, and will learn about inverse operations. We do daily math facts drills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division (depending on the day). Any that students miss are to be taken home that evening for homework. -Science - We will continue our study on Animal Adaptations (Body Parts and Behavior this week). -Social Studies - We are still practicing various map skills. This week we will concentrate on a Weather Map, a Climate Map, and a News Map. Ms. Loreto will be offering tutoring for her class and Mrs. Johnston's class Tuesday from 7:15-7:45. Students will go to morning recess after tutoring. Mrs. Johnston will be offering tutoring for her class and Ms. Loreto's class on Wednesday from 3:30-4:00. Students need to be picked up from the classroom at 4:00 or they will be taken to Boulder Club. Miss Magnusen will be offering tutoring for her class and Mr. Ho's class on Mondays from 7:15-7:45. We will complete grammar lessons 17-20. We will learn how to write informative compare/contrast paragraphs. In Reading, we will continue our study of reading strategies, focusing on summarizing, sequencing, and making inferences. We will continue with our book study. In Math, we will take benchmark test 1 on Monday. Students will receive 2 study guides for the math test on Tuesday. We will complete lesson 21 on triangles, rectangles, squares and circles. In Science, we will begin our study of inherited traits, heredity, and adaptations. We will read A28-37. In Social Studies, we will continue our study of maps, focusing on physical maps, product maps, history maps, and more. Announcements
Progress reports will be sent home this Wednesday the 13th. Student Council Meeting this Wednesday at 3:30 in Mrs. Wolpert's room for interested students . Flyers sent home last week. Agenda In Spalding students will be given List 3 for weekly test. In addition, students will enter 40 words in their spelling notebooks. The focus this week will be on entering rule page seven. Pretest will be on Wednesday and final test on Friday. Spelling packet homework will be due on Friday the 15th for the week. Language Arts - We will focus on adjectives, helping verbs, numerous types suffixes. Students will continue to work on writing informative paragraphs and this week's focus will be on compare and contrast. Reading - We will continue to work on reading strategies such as context clues, predicting, and KWL. We will continue book study on Thursday and Friday. Math - We will work on elapsed time, rounding, length/perimeter, and more supplemental common core math. Students will take math benchmark one test on Friday the 15th. Science - We will continue to work on the human body and systems. Students will be given a study guide to work on Tuesday and Wednesday for text on Thursday the 14th. Social Studies - Students will work on reviewing map skills and this week we will do the following: latitude/longitude, map scales, vegetation map, and landforms. Announcements- No school Monday, September 4th due to Veterans Day. Please help remind students to label their homework every night especially with their Names. Please make sure the homework is done in neatly and legibly. Box tops are being collected already. The class with the most will receive a prize! Signatures on planners and behavior charts are required every night. Please check agendas nightly to be sure that they are completing their homework before signing. Agenda Spalding- We will be working on list 2 this week. There will be a spelling pretest Wednesday and a Test Friday. Language Arts- We will be learning about demonstrative pronouns, suffixes and begin writing an informative paragraph. Reading- We will continue working on our book study and have a short quiz on Friday. Math- We will continue practicing our addition, subtraction, multiplication and division timed tests. In addition, we will review regrouping. There will be study guides given on Wednesday for a math test on Thursday. Lastly, we will be working with reading thermometers. Science- We will continue with the Muscular and Skeletal systems, along with the circulatory and respiratory systems. We will have a lab on Wednesday where the kids will work with their nervous systems. History- Students will work with Globe Hemispheres, Map Projections, Map Grids and Index’s, and Latitude. |
