Week of January 9th

Quick Announcements:
  • Project guidelines for quarter 3 will be distributed Monday. Please remember to talk with your children about their science fair project (in place of a book report), their recitation and reading log.
  • Report cards for quarter 2 will be distributed on Wednesday. 
  • Friday is early release for staff development.
  • Tutoring for Mayes and Loreto's classes will be Wednesday and Thursday ​before school this week. 
Our Learning this Week:
  • In Spalding, we will enter list 17 and be tested on list 16. 
  • In language/writing, we will learn about capital letters, parts of speech, suffixes and onomatopoeia. We will complete grammar lessons 59 and 60 with a grammar test on Thursday. 
  • In reading, we will continue our study of summarizing and identifying the theme/moral of a story. We will read The Value of Little Things and Blackfoot Story in the What Joy Awaits text. There will be a study guide Thursday for the test on Friday.
  • In math, we will complete lesson 58 and investigation 6 on multiplying 3 digit numbers and displaying data using graphs. There will be a study guide Wednesday for the test on Thursday. 
  • In science, we will begin our study of the scientific method. We will learn about scientific inquiry, and we will learn to differentiate between observations and inferences.
  • In social studies, we will review unit 1. Students will receive a study guide Monday for the test on Tuesday, We will begin reading the introductory pages for unit 2. 

Week of December 19th

Quick Announcements:
  • There will be no tutoring on Wednesday. 
  • Wednesday is early release. There will be no Boulder Club. Please feel free to join us for class parties at 10:30. Please remember: no siblings are allowed at the parties and no red food coloring or drinks are allowed.
  • Have a wonderful and safe winter break!
Our Learning this Week:
  • In Spalding, we will complete oral and written phonogram review and will practice our review spelling words.
  • In language/writing, we will complete grammar lessons 56 and 57. We will compare and contrast written and visual representations of texts in essays.
  • In reading, we will finish our book studies.
  • In math, we will complete lessons 56 and 57 on comparing fractions and rate word problems.
  • In science, we will continue our study of erosion, reading D44-D45.
  • In social studies, we will learn about primary and secondary sources. We will take a quiz over unit 1 lesson 5 on Monday. 

Week of December 12th

Quick Announcements:
  • Please join us for the geography bee on Thursday at 1:00.
  • Reading log is due Friday. 
  • Tutoring will be shortened Friday due to a teachers' event before school. It will still begin at 7:15. Any students planning to attend Friday morning tutoring have the option to go to Mrs. Mayes's class during lunch recess on Thursday to extend their tutoring time for this week.
Our Learning this Week:
  • In Spalding, we will enter list 16 and be tested on list 15. 
  • In language/writing, we will learn about commas, proper nouns, verb tenses, suffixes and idioms. We will complete grammar lessons 53-55. There will be a grammar test on Friday. In writing, we are learning to compare and contrast a firsthand and secondhand account of a historical event.
  • In reading, we will learn to summarize and discuss the theme and moral of legends from different cultures. We will continue with our book study,
  • In math, we will complete lessons 53 and 55 on one digit division with remainders and prime and composite numbers. We will learn to find the GCF and LCM. In math, we will have a study guide Thursday for the test on Friday. 
  • In science, we will discuss human and natural events that affect the ecosystem. We will discuss the positives and negatives of events such as dams, flooding, erosion and wildfires. We will review for our ecosystems test which will take place on Thursday. We will then begin a unit on erosion.
  • In social studies, we will read unit 1 lesson 5, learning about early civilizations in the Americas such as the Maya and the Olmec. We will learn about life in Europe during the Middle Ages. We will also learn about Spanish conquest in the Americas.
