Week of April 1st

Announcements:
  • AZ Merit and AIMS testing is this week. Please make sure your child is in school on time, well-rested, and has eaten a nice, healthy breakfast. Our class would love some healthy snacks and mints. If you are able to donate a little snack for our class, we would appreciate it!
  • The 4th grade teachers will not be holding tutoring for the remainder of the school year. Please plan accordingly for before school and after school care. 
  • There will be homework this week. Though it will be lighter than normal, the students are still expected to try to stay on a schedule with curriculum.
Academics:
  • Spalding, Language Arts and Reading will be skipped from Monday through Thursday due to testing. Friday we will be doing individual classroom work on where we need to catch up in each 4th grade room.
  • In math, we will complete lessons 83, 87, and 88 on sales tax, multiplying two-digit numbers, and find the remainders in word problems.
  • In science, students will continue their studies of weather and end it this week. A study guide will be given out on Thursday for a test next week. 
  • Students will not have social studies this week.

Week of March 25 - 29

Announcements:
  • Report cards will go home this Wednesday, Mar. 27th. Please sign a copy and send back as soon as possible.
  • Poem recitation Thursday and Friday: America the Beautiful.
  • We will be working with your child on AZ Merit test review for one more week.
  • AZ Merit Testing April 1 -5th. Please do NOT plan to pull your child out for any appointments during this important testing week unless absolutely necessary. Be sure to have your child go to bed early and eat a substantial breakfast all week. This is vital to his/her success.
Spalding: List 26 is Friday's test list. Students will enter list 27 words in their spelling notebooks.
Language: Common nouns, pronouns review, and pronoun usage.
Reading: Quarter 4 mystery book report assignment will be handed out along with new reading log. Students will read a Greek myth and take a short test. AZ Merit reading passage practice will continue.
Math: Timed tests daily, Math for Today, and AZ Merit math review with emphasis on fractions, decimals, and percents.
Science: Students will continue working on AIMS science test review and weather curriculum.
Social Studies: None this week.

Announcements:
  • AZ Merit testing is coming up the first week of April. We have been reviewing in class. Please review math, English/language arts, and science with your child if you are able. There are AZ Merit support materials available online and you can also contact your child's teacher for additional suggestions. (azmeritportal.org/sample-tests.stml)
  • Third quarter ends on the 15th.
  • The book log is due on Friday the 15th.
  • The poem this month its America the Beautiful
  • Friday is also a half day and 4thgrade releases at 12:05. We do not have lunch on half days, however we do allow the students to have a snack.
  • We have had many absences due to students being ill. Please consider donating Clorox wipes to your homeroom teacher so we can continue trying to keep germs away.
  • As it starts to warm up students have grown, please be sure shorts and skirts are appropriate length. 
  • Our science fair was a success and boards will be coming back home with your student once graded.
  • Please consider reaching out to your teacher to see if he or she needs help with grading or other tasks. This is a great way to fulfill your 3 hours of volunteering each month.
  • Spring Break is the 18th-22nd. 
  • The 4th quarter book report will be given out and explained after spring break, however if you wish to have your child start reading, the assignment is under projects on this site and the book must be from the 4th grade or above PRA reading list.
Academics:
  • In Spalding, we are entering list 26 and being tested on list 25. The students will also have their spelling packet due Friday.
  • In language/writing,we are learning about the comma, coordinating conjunctions and have our grammar test 14 on Friday. We will complete grammar lessons 74and 75. We will be working on AzMERIT material for both language and reading the entire week. 
  • In reading, we are wroking on the AzMERIT reading practice tests all week. Also we will be working on inferences with two stories in class. We will finish the week working on our book studies.
  • In math, we are working on the Fractions all week to prepare for the AzMERIT. 
  • In science, we are learning about weather and climate. We will read D20-23 and do a weather craft activity.
  • Social studies will be catching up from the prior weeks and less focused on until AzMERIT is completed.

 Academics:
In Spalding, we are entering list 25 and being tested on list 24.

In Language, we will complete grammar lessons 72 Pronoun use, 73 dependent/independent clauses,. In writing we will continue to work on writing a 1st person narrative

In Reading, we will continue our study of text structures by focusing on cause and effect. We will finish reading McBroom and the Big Wind and take comprehension test. We will also learn about the problem/solution text structure and classification.

In Math, we will begin a review unit on fractions, decimals and percentages.  This will be individual lessons and will not be directly out of the text book.
·          
In Science, we will begin to explore magnetism and electricity.  We will also begin an AIMS Test review packet to prepare for upcoming standardized testing.
·          
In Social Studies, we will continue to read Unit 4 on how government works.​
